The Cross Cottage was purchased at an auction during an Arts Gala. Sponsored by Fund for the Arts, the Arts Gala was begun by Joanne Johnson, the wife of Mason president George W. Johnson, in 1981 to promote the arts on campus and cultural growth within the region.
There have been poetry readings and small weddings there.
